Kung Fu To China
Friends, today we all know that China is expert and famous in Kungfu, but do you know that this art was taught to China by an Indian. He was an Indian who saved the people of China from a major epidemic and even though very few people in India know about him today, if we talk about China then there is no one who does not know him. Friends, we are talking about Bodhidharman. To say the least, he was an ordinary Buddhist monk but his knowledge made him great.
So in today’s video I am going to tell you about the life of Bodhidharman. So let’s start the video. Bodhidharman’s life was not that of a saint from the beginning. Nor was he a descendant of any Buddhist monk. Actually Bodhidharma was a wealthy prince. According to historians, Bodhidharma was born in the Pallava kingdom of South India. It is believed that his father was the king of Kanchipuram. Bodhidharman had immense wealth since childhood. He had no shortage of anything. If he wanted, he could have lived his life in luxury.
But instead of choosing an easy life, he chose an ordinary life. It is said that despite having all kinds of facilities, Bodhidharma did not have any of the hobbies of a king. Since childhood, he had no attachment to worldly pleasures and attractions. That is why he left his kingdom at a very young age and became a Buddhist monk. There is a belief that Bodhidharma was attracted towards Buddhism since childhood and the simple life of Buddhist saints and their great thoughts had a deep impact on him.
At the age of just seven, he started showing the power of his supernatural knowledge to people. History varies regarding Bodhidharma. Things are told. But what Osho Rajneesh said is closer to the truth. Is visible. He tells that since childhood, he used to have trouble in breathing due to Buddhism, to get relief from it, he took the help of Yoga Vidya and started practicing Yoga. Apart from this, he also learned the art of fighting in the early days of his life in which he became proficient.
But he was not interested in all this and he adopted Buddhism and became a complete Buddhist monk. Due to his deep interest in Buddhism, he started taking knowledge from Guru Mahakashyap and then started becoming a Buddhist monk through the art of meditation. After which he completely abandoned his royal life and started living in an ordinary monastery along with Buddhist monks, where he started living a simple life like an ordinary Buddhist monk and started following the teachings given by Gautam Buddha. .
Before becoming a Buddhist monk here, his name was Buddhist Tara, which he changed to Buddhism. Bodhidharma became fully enlightened at the age of only 22, after which he started propagating and spreading Buddhism throughout India and then became the 28th guru of Buddhism in the tradition carried on by Mahatma Buddha. After the death of his guru Mahakashyapa, Bodhidharma left that monastery and to fulfill his guru’s wish, he went to China, where he started propagating Buddhism.
Along with this, he not only laid the foundation of Buddhism in China but he also invented martial arts there. Kalaripayattu is considered to be the oldest martial arts technique in the world and the art originated in Kerala, South India. This is one of the oldest martial arts in the world. This art. Body fitness is not just for agility, but describes a lifestyle. The person who learns this art makes him a strong warrior and at the same time, the people who learn it also learn the art of medicine. Today this knowledge is famous as martial arts in different countries.
But this art has developed many branches over time, one of which is Kung Fu. But the thing to think about is how this art reached countries like China and Japan from India. If we look into history, we find many facts which are surprising. Historians and scholars have different opinions on how Buddhism reached China and there is no concrete information about the actual route they took to China. But according to some historians, his journey took a long time of about three years. After this Bodhidharma reached Nanjing village in China.
An astrologer already present in Nanjing had predicted that a terrible trouble was about to come to the village, due to which their entire village could be ruined. And when Bodhidharma reached Nanjing village, the people of the village felt that the trouble coming to the village was Buddhism itself. After which the people of the village opposed Bodhidharma. Bodhidharma was forced to move out of the village. Then they started living in a forest near the village. After Bodhidharma left the village, the villagers became careless. They started feeling that after the departure of Bodhidharma, the troubles also went away from the village.
But it was not so. The problem of the village was not Buddhism, but the crisis was a terrible epidemic. One day he knocked in the village. People started falling ill due to which there was chaos in the village. The people of the village used to leave people and children suffering from diseases outside the village so that no one else would get this disease because of them and because Bodhidharma had knowledge of medicine, he helped such people and saved them from dying and then the village People understood that Buddhism is not a crisis but has come to help them as a remover of troubles.
After which the people of the village gave him shelter in the village with respect and Buddhism took the help of some wise people of the village in cutting and grinding the herbs and in this way he provided medical facilities to the entire village and saved the village from the epidemic. . But soon after this crisis was averted, another crisis hit the village. A group of robbers attacked the village and started looting and killing the villagers. The villagers thought that Buddhism was specialized only in medicine but little did they know that he was proficient in Kalaripayattu Vidya of ancient India.
Bodhidharma fought with Kalaripayattu knowledge and hypnotism and forced the robbers to retreat. The villagers were surprised to see Bodhidharma fighting the robbers alone. They had never seen such amazing art till date and seeing this people understood that Bodhidharma was not an ordinary person. After this, the respect of Bodhidharma increased even more in China. According to historians, after this incident, Bodhidharma instructed the villagers to practice Kalaripayattu or martial arts for self-defense.
Taught and in this way the knowledge of India’s ancient war art reached China. Later, these people developed Shaolin Kung Fu martial art using this art in its original form. After this Bodhidharma proceeded to spread Buddhist teachings. During the journey, we reached the famous Shaolin Monastery located on Mount Song in China. Here he had to face a lot of opposition. Here the monks of the monastery refused to enter the monastery and after not getting entry into the Shaolin Monastery, he left without saying anything and Bodhidharma went to meditate in a nearby mountain cave.
After which the monks of the monastery felt. Bodhidharma will leave from there after a few days. But this did not happen. Bodhidharma sat in meditation in that cave facing the wall for nine years. Someone asked him one day, why do you sit towards the wall and not turn your back towards us? In response to which Bodhidharma said that I will see whatever is readable in my eyes. Not now. Right now, whether I see the wall or you, it’s the same thing. Osho Rajneesh tells that after nine years the person came for whom Bodhidharma had waited.
He cut off one of his hands and placed it towards Bodhidharma and said quickly turn it towards him otherwise I will cut off my own neck too. After which Bodhidharma did not stop even for a moment and turned towards him and said, You have come. Was waiting for you only. Because only the one who is ready to give his all to me can bear my message. To this man Bodhidharma gave his message, which Gautam Buddha had given to Mahakashyapa. This cave is known by the name Matang, which means Demon’s Cave.
It is said that Bodhidharma sat in meditation in this cave for such a long time that his complete statue was formed on the wall of the cave. Even the folds of Bodhidharma’s clothes were printed in it. The shadow rock was later cut out of the cave and taken to the Shaolin Temple. It was installed for meditation in the Shaolin Temple and today people worship this statue. After nine years of penance, Bodhidharma was allowed to enter the Shaolin Temple. As soon as Bodhidharma came to the temple, he saw that no one was healthy here.
After which he taught these people the same exercises that he had done in the cave, which later became martial arts. It was very effective. This kept the body healthy and methods of fighting could also be learned from it. Within no time, this amazing knowledge spread from China to the surrounding countries and even today this knowledge taught by Bodhidharma can be seen in different forms in many Asian countries. There are different beliefs regarding the death of Bodhidharma.
Some people say that he was poisoned and many say that he further went to Japan and other countries to propagate Buddhism and many people say that he breathed his last in Shaolin Monastery itself. Today Bodhidharma is known as a divine character and worshiped as the founder of Jain Buddhism. The word Jain Buddhism means meditation in Sanskrit, Dharma in Japanese and three in Vietnamese and is known by different names in many different languages as well as Bodhidharma.
They are known by many different names in different countries and are also worshiped. It is believed that Bodhidharma had four disciples who used to stay with him all the time and even in his last moments, these disciples did not leave him. Friends, there was a very religious Mahatma who spread Buddhism and martial arts from India to China as well as many other countries.
Anyway, see you again with the powerful explanation of the History.
